Reflect on OCD Self-Screener

The screeners on this page—including the OCD Self-Screener and the ERP Appropriateness & Readiness Screener—were developed by Matthew Baker, LCSW, a California-licensed clinical social worker who specializes in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety-related conditions using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

These tools are provided for educational and self-reflection purposes only. They are not designed to diagnose OCD, replace professional evaluation, or guide treatment decisions on their own.

The OCD Self-Screener is designed to help you reflect on experiences that may resemble commonly described features of obsessive-compulsive disorder, such as intrusive thoughts, persistent “what if” thinking, mental loops, reassurance seeking, checking, or repetitive behaviors.

The ERP Appropriateness & Readiness Screener focuses on a different question: whether Exposure and Response Prevention—the gold-standard treatment for OCD and related conditions—may be a good fit for where you currently are. It explores factors such as motivation, expectations about therapy, willingness to practice new responses to anxiety, and readiness to approach situations that currently trigger distress.

These tools were developed for adults (18+) who want to better understand patterns in their thinking and behavior. They may be especially helpful if you notice intrusive thoughts, persistent uncertainty, or habits aimed at reducing anxiety that never seem to fully resolve the underlying distress.

Many people who use these screeners are high-functioning in their daily lives—capable at work, reliable in relationships, and outwardly “doing fine”—while internally feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or confused by what they are experiencing.

Structured self-reflection can help clarify patterns, organize what you are noticing, and give language to experiences that are often difficult to describe. For some people, this process simply provides insight. For others, it becomes a helpful starting point for a conversation with a mental health professional about whether further evaluation or evidence-based treatment such as ERP therapy may be appropriate.

Know Its Limits

This screener does not provide a diagnosis and cannot determine whether you have OCD or any other mental health condition. It is not a substitute for therapy, a comprehensive clinical evaluation, or professional treatment. Results should be understood as educational information only, not medical or psychological advice. This tool is also not intended for use in emergencies. If you are experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, or are in immediate distress, please contact emergency services or seek urgent medical care. Although this website may include forms that allow information to be submitted, this self-screening tool does not submit, store, transmit, or record responses. Answers entered into this screener are not reviewed, monitored, or referenced by Whatif Therapy in real time or after completion and are used only to generate on-screen educational feedback for the user during the session. Use of this screener does not establish a therapeutic relationship with Whatif Therapy.

Your Path Forward

If your responses suggest patterns that resonate with OCD-related experiences and you would like clarity beyond self-reflection, a formal clinical assessment with a licensed mental health professional trained in OCD and anxiety disorders can be helpful.

At Whatif Therapy, I specialize in evidence-based treatment for OCD and related anxiety conditions, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). If you’re interested in learning whether structured, skills-based therapy may be a good fit, you’re welcome to schedule a consultation.
